Life Lessons, Courtesy of Leo, The Goldendoodle!

A little over seven years ago, we were faced with a pivotal life decision … keep living the dream in sunny California or accept an opportunity in Seattle and move into the great unknown. We were well established in our Bay Area community and were thrilled with our boys’ school, our church, an abundance of friends and the swimming pool in the backyard didn’t hurt either!

While we (the parents) came to the difficult decision that moving was the right thing to do, the boys were not on board. So we did what all parents have to do from time to time; we bribed them! After much negotiation, we settled on a trip to Hawaii, the boys would be allowed to paint their rooms the color they wanted, and, most importantly, they would be allowed to get a dog.

So that’s how Leo became a member of our family, and he has been a blessing to us all since day one. Although Leo doesn’t speak English, he has been able to teach us some very important lessons about life and maximizing our one precious life.

First and foremost, BE JOYFUL! No matter the weather or what’s on the news, Leo approaches everything and everyone with a zest for life! It’s contagious, really. What if everyone waved, said hi, and smiled at each other? We chose Newcastle for the warm, friendly small-town feel. What if we, Newcastle neighbors, all took our niceness to the Leo level … could we become the nicest City in America? We’re well on our way, let’s do it!

Second, WALK! Rain or shine, Leo always wants to go for a walk. And wouldn’t you know it, walking is actually the most important thing we can do for our health and happiness. There are a gazillion studies demonstrating the benefits of walking and one Harvard study scientifically proved that walking daily counteracts the effects of weight-promoting genes, tames the sweet tooth, reduces the risk of developing breast cancer, eases joint pain, and boosts immune function. And when you’re out walking around the neighborhood or on our amazing trails, be sure to smile and wave at your neighbors … we promise it’ll make you instantly happier.

It’s just amazing what Leo has taught us about life and all he wants from us in return is food, shelter and cuddles. As our Uncle Bill would say, “Isn’t Life Grand!”

Your Home Team wishes you an abundance of joy and footsteps ... and we, and Leo, hope to see you around town soon!

Cheers!
