April Showers Bring May Flowers!
With spring in the air and Summer swiftly approaching May is a great time to tidy up those garden and flower pots. We truly love to renew our garden spaces and outdoor pots with some fresh and vibrant flowers. For us, it’s very therapeutic and a great sense of accomplishment when we get to relax and enjoy the beauty we’ve cultivated and created.
Have you heard that flowers can have a long-term positive effect on your mood? A study conducted at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, results showed that flowers are a natural and healthful facilitator of positive moods. Participants had an immediate and long-term impact on happiness, they reported feeling less depressed and anxious and demonstrated a higher sense of enjoyment and life satisfaction. It’s nice to have science back up what we’ve been feeling for years!
If that study is motivating and you want to get planting here are 3 of our favorites to consider adding to your yard this year…
Peonies: These gorgeous flowers are one of the most fragrant flowers we’ve experienced. We’ve had them at our homes wherever we’ve lived and they are hardier than you think especially because they can withstand those harsh MN winters and keep coming back! We also appreciate that we can cut them and bring that beauty and fragrance indoors.
Butterfly Bush: These beautiful flowering bushes are low-maintenance as well and grow these stunning masses of flowers. It was one of our first perennials as new homeowners and we remember the blooms and butterflies never left all summer long.
Honeysuckle: These also produce very fragrant, sweet-smelling flowers. One of our favorite byproducts is the hummingbirds that swoon around them. Did you know that many people believe that hummingbirds are good luck? Two of our most recent clients purchased their home because a hummingbird showed up while we were touring!
There are so many incredible flower options that are easy to maintain while catering to many of our senses and bringing us enjoyment and positive moods! If you aren’t sure where to begin when it comes to flowers have no fear because our community is lucky to have Newcastle Fruit and Produce as a wonderful resource. Make your way over and trust in the knowledgeable staff's guidance to find some new treasures for your flower garden.
Wishing you all the happiness as you fill your home and yard with flowers this spring and summer!
